Polish Party - Splatter Nails

Hey nailistas!

I've recently joined an awesome nail art challenge group called Polish Party. Each month members vote on a theme and then create a mani at the end of each month to reflect the design.

This month Splatter Nails was the chosen design and I was so excited to create mine. I've watched a couple of tutorials on how to best do these and in the end I chose the straw option.

I started out by painting my nails with two coats of white polish and then selected four complementing colours. I've seen a lot of people choose a variety of different colours for this mani, but I wanted colours that followed a colour scheme, so I went for two shades of purple, a light pink and a grey. I used:

Rimmel 60 Seconds - 613 Midnight Rendevous
Rimmel 60 Seconds - 805 Grey Matter
Nail Paint by Barry M - 308 Berry I/C
Nail Paint by Barry M - 279 Bright Pink

I then took a straw, dipped it into the polish and then blew the polish onto each nail. I put one colour on every nail before moving onto the next colour, that way I could cut the end of the straw off before moving on to the next colour so that the colours wouldn't mix and go gloopy at the end. It took a little while to get the technique down, but I'm really pleased with the results, especially considering that it was my first try!

Be warned though, this is probably one of the messiest manis I've ever tried, as I'm sure you can imagine. If you decide to try this out for yourselves, be sure that you have plenty of nail polish remover to get rid of the polish that will 100% splatter onto your fingers and hands and also make sure to lay down some paper towels and newspaper. Believe me, you're going to need it! I also, just to make the clean up easier, placed some tape around my fingers before blowing the polish onto the nails so that I could just take the tape off and remove a lot of the excess polish at the same time.

So that was my first contribution to the Polish Party and I already can't wait for the next! If you've read this and are interested in seeing what the other members have created, be sure to check out their designs below! :)
