July is here, which means it's time for the latest Polish Party! For anyone that didn't read my last Polish Party blog post, the general gist of it is that each month Polish Party members vote on a theme and then create a mani at the end of each month to reflect the design. I really enjoyed making my first contribution last month and have been excited to do the next ever since.
This month, the consensus was gradient nails. I've been super pumped to do this one because I freaking LOVE gradient nails and this is a technique that I've tried a couple of times with varying degrees of success, so I was determined that this one would be my best effort.
Prior to trying to create gradient nails myself, I'd always thought that it looked super complicated, but having watched a couple of tutorials, I realised that once you get the hang of it, it's not terribly difficult. There are a ton of great video tutorials out there which show you how to get the perfect gradient mani. This one from Demelza's World is one of my favourites! I'd say that the most important part of the whole process is selecting colours that will blend well together.
Previously, I've tried out blue-green, orange-yellow and also purple-grey gradients and I'd say that my orange-yellow one turned out to be the best and I had paired that gradient with a palm tree design. I loved that mani so much that I wanted to recreate it for this challenge, but I was determined to make it look a little different and a lot more polished this time around.
With that in mind, I made use of the orange gradient, but this time I combined it with a blue/purple transition to create the impression of a beach sunset. I then used the palm tree design again as I've seriously been seeing so many pop up on Instagram lately, but this time I added a little more detail to the leaves, feathering them out a little more so that they looked more realistic.
Here is my finished design:
The polishes I used for this mani were:
- Nail Polish by H&M in Serenity Now (one of my new June purchases!)
- Nicole by O.P.I's Oh That's Just Grape (NI 440) (I can't get enough of this polish at the moment!)
- Maybelline Color Show in Orange Attack (341)
- Nail Paint by Barry M in Matt White (66) (for the base colour)
- My black Barry M Nail Art Pen (for the palm tree design on top)
I'm really pleased with how these came out and definitely think that this is my best attempt at gradient nails yet. It just goes to show that when you invest the time, you'll definitely see improvements!
